Some of Seishins novice grade players took part In the Sussex
Yellow Belt and under Championships in Worthing on Sunday
11th November 2007. For some it was their first experience
of competition. However, five medals where won on the day:-

TWO BRONZE MEDALS FOR SEISHIN JUDO
On Sunday 4th November based Seishin Judo won two Bronze
medals at Judo competitions held at K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley.
There were two competitions on the same day. The South of
England Junior Orange Belt and under Championships at which
George Horne, fighting in the Under 46 Kgs, took Bronze.
In the Southern Area Senior Open Championships Paul Marchant
won Bronze in the Under 90 Kgs Group

Medal Success for Seishin Judo Players
On Sunday 28th October a small number of Junior and Senior
players from Seishin travelled to the Mountbbatten Centre
in Portsmouth to take part in the Hampshire Split Grade Championships.
In the the junior section Orange and Green Belts Sam
Battrum took Bronze in the Under
38Kgs group and Justin Macklin a Silver
in the Under 46Kgs.
In the Blue and Brown Belt group Under 73 Kgs Dan Bolland
took Bronze and Tom Ransom
a Gold.
The Senior players, both fighting in the Under 73 Kgs Brown
and Black Belt group were equally successful with Danny
Gregory taking the Silver and
James Stringer a Bronze.

National Champion at Seishin
On 13th and 14th October junior players from Seishin competed
at the National Junior Age Banded Championships in Sheffield.
This Competition attracts players from England, Wales, Scotland
and Northern Ireland and is always a tough tournament.
However, in their age groups, Joe Bolland took Gold and the
title of National Champion in the Over 66kgs and in the Under
90kgs Joshua Butler took Bronze.
A great result for Seishin well done to all of them.

Four Silver Medals !!
On the 1st July players from Seishin, two representing Sussex
County, won four silver medals at the Hampshire Junior and
Youth Open Championships held at the Mountbatten Centre in
Portsmouth.

One of Seishins Youngest players wins
Bronze
On Sunday 10th June at the Southern Area Junior and Youth
Championships held at K2 Leisure Centre, Crawley, Seishins
youngest player on the day took third place Bronze.
Well done to Edmund Coke for his Bronze Medal win in the
U34 Kilo category.

Seishin Judo Top Club in Sussex for
the Third year running
On Sunday 22nd April 2007 members of Seishin traveled to
Worthing to take part in the 2007 Sussex Judo Trials. This
competition is open to Junior and Senior players from Judo
clubs in Sussex with the medallists forming part of the Sussex
Judo Squad for the forthcoming year. Seishin won the Meeksan
Trophy for the third year in succession. This Trophy is awarded
to the club with the highest total of points achieved by the
Junior Medal winners

Two brothers from Seishin Judo take
medals in Judo Kata
On
Sunday 15th April Dominic Young aged 12 and his brother Gareth
15, took part in the Southern Area Judo Open Kata Championships
held at Sovereign Judo Club in Reigate Surrey. This event
attracted people from as far away as the Midlands.
Kata is a formal demonstration of Judo techniques and on
this occasion they demonstrated Nage no Kata (demonstration
of throwing techniques).
Dominic and Gareth demonstrated superbly with technical confidence
to take the Bronze medal and this, despite the fact that Dominic
at 32 kilos in weight was throwing Gareth who weighs 53 kilos.
Bruce Scrivens, Chief Instructor at Seishin said "These
two demonstrated superbly and will go from strength to strength"

The first gradings of 2007 saw success for both Judo and
Iaido students. There were grade improvements for both juniors
and seniors in Judo and for seniors in Iaido. In line with

Split Grade Competition
On Sunday 29th October a team of players from Seishin Judo
travelled to the Hampshire Split Grade Open Judo Competition
at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth. The standard at this
event was high with tough competition in the weights groups
contested by the Seishin players.

Seishin Judo take medals at National
Competition
On Sunday 10th September a small team of players from Burgess
Hill based Seishin Judo travelled to The National Indoor Arena
in Birmingham to take part in the Heart of England Judo Championships.
This Competition is one of the largest in the UK attracting
around 1000 competitors from all over the UK and teams from
as far afield as France and South Africa.
As expected the competition was of a very high standard but
on the day Justin Macklin won a well earned Bronze medal in
the Group A Under 38 Kilo category. Rob Lighfoot, having discovered
that he had to move up a weight to the Under 73 Kilos category,
fought superbly well to take the Silver medal.

Iaido Grading Results
On Tuesday 22nd August some of Seishin's Iaido students took
part in a grading assessments at their dojo in East Grinstead.

Novices Achieve Medal Success
Seishin beginners win medals at The Junior Red Belt and
Under Competition held at Worthing on Sunday 30th July.
This event is to allow beginners their first taste of competition
and, as usual, was well attended.
On the day, Bronze went to Bryony Chellew in
the Girls Under 40 Kgs category and in the Boys Under 60 Kgs
Dan Harris struck Gold
The determination and effort shown by these young beginners
is quite something. The future looks good, well done.

Seishin in the medals again
Players from Seishin won medals at the South of England
Junior Open Championships at Worthing on Sunday 16th July.
As usual our players found themselves in large, highly competitive
weight groups but once again they rose to the challenge with
Rob Lightfoot and James Stringer taking Bronze in the Under
66 Kgs group. Oliver Young just missed out on a medal this
time but took fifth place in the Under 60 Kgs.

Sussex County Judo Trials at Worthing
On Sunday 9th April a team from Seishin took part in the
Sussex County Judo Trials at Worthing
This competition is open to Junior and Senior players from
Judo clubs in Sussex with medallists forming part of the Sussex
Judo Squad for the forthcoming year.
Seishin ended the day on a high by winning 20 medals and
the Meeksan Trophy, awarded to the club gaining the most medal
points. All our players fought well to achieve this great
result, well done everyone

Seishin players gain medals at the British Schools Association
National Championships at Bath University on Saturday 18th
February
Two of Seishins players, Gareth Young, representing Imberhorne
School in East Grinstead, and Joe Bolland representing Warden
Park School in Cuckfield fought in the same weight category
of Under 46 Kgs in the 11 to 13 years age category. Both players
fought extremely well in a tough group with Joe taking Silver
and Gareth a Bronze

Seishin success at The London Judo
International
The Age-Banded London Judo International took place on 11th
and 12th February at the Excel Centre and attracted over 1,500
entries over the two days making this the largest event in
the UK.
This was a great result for Seishin because not only did
players win medals in competitive judo but also in Traditional
Judo Kata (Formal demonstration of techniques) as well:

Tom Williams wins Silver at the South
Coast Mini Mons
On Sunday 22nd January five of Seishin's juniors attended
the South Coast Mini Mons Competition at Worthing. This competition
is restricted to Orange Belt and under and attracts clubs
from all over the South of England.
As usual the lighter weight groups attracted a very high
numbers of entries and both Sam Battrum, Under 30 Kgs and
Rory Gillespie, Under 34 Kgs fought well to achieve 6th and
7th places in groups of up to 30 players.
Tom Williams, fighting in the Over 60 Kgs group fought extremely
well to earn a silver medal. Well done Tom.
