Iaido grading success
On Saturday 3rd December 2005 five of Seishins Iaidoka took
part in a central grading which attracted swordsmen and women
from other styles, including Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu, Tenshin
Ryu as well as our own Muso Shinden Ryu.
Congratulations to the following:

James Draper - Nikkyu (2nd Kyu)
Hayley Boot - Nikkyu (2nd Kyu)
John Boulderstone - Ikkyu (1st Kyu)
and special mention to James Stringer in achieving his Shodan
(1st Dan)
Chief Instructor Bruce Scrivens commented "Iaido, although
appearing to the unknowing onlooker very easy, is in fact
very difficult. It requires lots of repetitive practice to
improve ones skills."

Medal Success at Sussex Team event
On Sunday 27th November 2005 Seishin Senior and Junior Judoka
took part in the annual Sussex Team Competition at Worthing
Gaining a Bronze and Silver Medal
This competition is restricted to Sussex Clubs only and is
strongly contested
Our Senior team fought extremely well despite being two men
down due to illness eventually gaining a well earned Bronze
Medal in the team of 5, Mens 1st Kyu and above section
The Juniors fought hard in the boys “any grade”
category which comprises teams of three players gaining a
Silver Medal.
The Medallists were:
Men:- Rupert Bancroft, Ben Sanderson and Chris Godsmark
Boys:- Justin Macklin, Joe Bolland and Luke O`Boyle

Seishin gain medals at Open Yellow Belt
and under Competition
On Sunday 20th November 2005 some of Seishins Junior Red
and Yellow Belts travelled to Worthing to take part in the
Yellow Belt and under Open Competition. This time, it was
the turn of the girls to come away with the medals.
As always, some of the categories were highly competitive
with a large number of entries. The medal winners were:

Tom Ransom gains Bronze
At the National Junior Age-Banded Championships held at the
`Ice Stadium` in Sheffield on 8th October Tom Ransom took
Bronze in Group B Under 66 KGs
This competition, the biggest of its kind, attracts the very
best players from all over the UK.

Seishin medal success at Crystal Palace
On Sunday 30th October a small team of Seishins juniors took
part in the South of England Junior Open at Crystal Palace.
In the Red Belt Category Jared Leighton took Gold in the
Under 30 Kgs with Mackenzie Simpson taking a well earned 5th
place.
Moving up to the Orange Belt Category, Sam Battrum took Bronze
in the Under 30 Kgs as did Toine Hodgekiss in the Under 55
Kgs
The other players on the day were Maxime Oulton, Luke Constable
and Thomas Leighton

Seishin hold the 2nd Annual
Closed Orange Belt and Under Competition
On Saturday 24th September 2005 Seishins
juniors (Orange Belts and below) took part in the 2nd
Annual in-house Competition at their dojo in Oakmeads School,
Burgess Hill.
60 youngsters took part in this event watched by some 150
parents and friends. Some great judo and a great atmosphere
made this a very enjoyable occasion.
Very few of these young players have taken part in any kind
of competition before but rose to the occasion superbly

Medal success for Seishin at the
Heart of England National Open Competition
On Sunday 11th September 2005 a small team
travelled to the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham to take
part in this highly competitive event which attracted players
from the UK, Holland, France and South Africa.
The four man team of Chris Godsmark, Rob Lightfoot, Matthew
Lasis and Tom Ransom had to work hard in this challenging
competition with Tom Ransom winning a well earned Bronze medal
in the age banded Under 66Kgs category.
Chief Instructor Bruce Scrivens commented "This level
of competition gives players invaluable experience and I was
proud of them all".
