Iaido Syllabus

The syllabus that is followed at Seishin comprises sets of Kata (set forms) each increasing in standard, called: SHODEN, CHUDEN, OKUDEN and OKUDEN TACHI WAZA. Some 44 techniques in all Eventually, this will be followed by TACHI UCHI NO KURAI (Two man Iai).

In addition, aspects of other styles of Iaido and Iaijutsu are studied including, at a suitable time, TAMESHIGIRI (Cutting).

Gradings will be held `In house` by our certified instructors and recognised by the Federation of Iai Schools. In addition, there will be opportunities to attend seminars not only in Muso Shinden Ryu but in other styles as well.

Seishin Dojo is a fully Certificated Dojo with Dai Nippon Butoku Kai , Japans Premier Martial Arts Society.

Initially the student will use a Bokken (Wooden Sword) and eventually progress to Iaito (Composite alloy practice swords). In fact both weapons will be used.

The clothing consists of Hakama (Very loose cullote style trousers) and Iaigi jackets. At first we can supply the necessary equipment to new students before they decide that Iaido `is for them` All Iaido clothing and equipment is available through Seishin at trade prices.

Membership and Insurance

Upon joining you will receive your membership booklet and certificate of insurance. These must be carried at all times when travelling to and from the club meetings

As the use of weapons can be dangerous it is a requirement that all persons wishing to participate pay the training fee for the session so as to meet our strict insurance requirements.

As mentioned earlier, our instructors are fully insured.
